Fun in Quarantine with BrüMate: Golden Globes Edition

As some of you may know, the Golden Globes Award Show happened last night! I personally love awards shows, so we decided to have a little get together to commemorate the evening and, let’s be real, drink alcohol and eat food with friends.  Since many of us are still trying to find new ways to have fun in quarantine, we thought a small get together at home would be the best way to watch the show!

Below you’ll find a quick recap of last night’s happenings, details on how to put together a “show night charcuterie board,” a “golden” cocktail recipe, and the most amazing drinkware & accessories by BrüMate that will elevate your drinking / hosting game and have you kissing your old glasses goodbye.

Golden Globes Recap & Favorite Moments

I love Amy Poehler and Tina Fey. The dynamic duo hosted last night’s award show and their outfits were amazing! I haven’t seen many of the movies and shows nominated, but I definitely have a few that I want to watch now after seeing them mentioned last night! A few I’m interested in include Borat, Nomadland, and The United States vs. Billie Holiday.

Not surprisingly, Chadwick Boseman won Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture Drama for “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.” His wife accepted the award on his behalf and let me just say, there was not a dry eye in the audience. His legacy lives on and he is so sorely missed and revered.

Finally, I gained such great respect and knowledge about Jane Fonda who won the Cecil B. DeMille Award. I’m embarrassed to say that I had no idea she had such an illustrious acting career before she became an activist, using her at home workout videos to raise money to support her efforts. It was a fun night, indeed!

Show Night Charcuterie Board

Moving on to one of the best parts of the evening, the snacks! Charcuterie boards are great because you can easily make them your own by switching out ingredients and arranging to your liking! During the pandemic, I recommend including at least a few snacks that can easily be grabbed without needing to share serving utensils for those who are less comfortable with that. And of course, have hand sanitizer available on the table. When making this Charcuterie board, I started with the containers, then added the cheese and grapes to create symmetry, then filled in all the blank space with GF pretzels!

Here are some ideas for what you can include:

– Popcorn served in individual cups
– Movie Theater Candy (i.e. Swedish Fish, Buncha Crunch, Milk Duds, Sour Patch Kids)
– Grapes in small bunches
– Cheddar Cheese cubes with toothpicks
– Pretzels
– Dried Fruit & Nuts

While prepping for the party I used BrüMate’s brand new ReHydration Bottle to stay hydrated during the day. I personally love drinking out of a straw, so that is a huge bonus when using this as a water bottle. The best part is that it doubles as a canteen with a shot glass screw top lid when it’s time for the party to start! Just before guests started to arrive I rinsed out the bottle, added the premixed cocktail listed below, and switched to the shot glass lid so that everything on display matched and was ready to go for me to play bartender! This is especially useful if you want to take premixed cocktails to-go for a picnic or party somewhere else!

Using the ReHydration Bottle while setting up for the party!

The ReHydration Bottle is the most functional water bottle of its kind. As I mentioned, it includes two twist-on lids – one shot glass lid for the party and one straw lid for everything else. I got matching highball glasses to go with mine in the color matte gray. You can also create a Rocks Gift Set which comes with the Fifth (rehydration bottle minus the straw) and two matching Rocks Tumblers. The Straw Lid can be purchased separately to complete the set!

Cocktail Recipe

This recipe requires a little bit of prep work, but is so good and perfect to make ahead of time and add to your Fifth Canteen before the party starts!

The Fifth Canteen comes with a shot glass lid!

  • 3/4 cup honey
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 6 sprigs fresh thyme (plus more for garnish)
  • 1 1/4 cups fresh lemon juice
  • 1 cup vodka
  • Ice cubes

  1. Place honey, thyme and water in a saucepan and heat over medium heat. Bring to a simmer and stir to dissolve the honey. Keep at a low simmer for about 10 minutes. Remove from the heat and let the mixture steep for about 15 minutes.
  2. Pour mixture through a fine sieve. Discard the thyme. Chill mixture until ready to serve.
  3. Combine vodka, lemon juice and simple syrup in your BrüMate Fifth Canteen (aka the Rehydration Bottle with the shot glass lid). Shake gently and pour into 4 BrüMate glasses of choice filled with ice and garnish with thyme sprigs!

BrüMate Drinkware & Accessories

I feel so much more prepared and equipped to host guests in my home with my BrüMate glasses and accessories. So often before, I would be rummaging trying to find the right glass or a shaker that wouldn’t leak when I was making cocktails. Then there’s the issue of coasters – always trying to babysit the drinks of your poor friends who are there to relax and have fun. With BrüMate, all of that is no issue, not to mention the fact that everyone’s drinks stay cold throughout the night.

I love BrüMate’s slogan, “Life is too short to drink warm alcohol,” because it’s so true! There is nothing worse than a warm beer or a watered down beverage. Once I started using BrüMate, I also stopped dumping out the last third of my drink because it got warm before I could finish it. I’m telling you, their products actually work and are the best quality drinkware I’ve seen anywhere.

I hope you found something here that was useful and that you can carry with you the next time you are hosting!

Cheers to you!
